A lil here and there…

Started 2016 with a big bang, fireworks aside… Oh let year 2016 be a sweet one, pretty please?

Pince & Pints Bangsar

Lunch treat for Rowie!!

I was really surprised because it wasn’t planned AT ALL. I’ve gotten plenty of good reviews from this dine shack and nonetheless, very delighted to agree with them – the place, the food, the ambiance really did match to whatever was being praised, yummers!

The lobster roll was really good, crunchy soft bread stuffed with generous chunks of lobster meat and condiments. We also had an Asian dish which was the lobster yee mee, absolutely worth drooling over. Would definitely head back for the other dishes!

Chinese New Year is round the corner and what do we do? Shopping definitely. Some people get excited – shopping therapy, some people dread it because they find it tedious. All in all, we all don’t mind a good stroll around the mall, no? Sometimes looking at things we want but maybe not, “yes no maybe no no wait yes I don’t know”.. sometimes “no no no no no ok I’m done”.

It’s fun, good exercise.

And I found THE ONE that made me go YEEEEEESSSSS

Unstoppable Momentum

30 Wednesday Dec 2015

End of 2015 is reaching soon, what’s your new year’s resolution??

I go blank whenever that question is asked. Does that mean I have no dreams or goals to achieve? Well… just my way and I’d like to keep it like that, not much of a long-list planner =)

First and foremost, happy holidays!! Christmas is still lingering around and everyone’s still jingle here~ jingle there~ I can tell, with new years coming in just 2 more days, it is time to bid year 2015 a warm farewell.

Looking back, there’s happiness but plenty of sadness/frustrations too, still I am thankful for each and every one of them. Here’s a recap!

  1. Leaving Australia was one of the best decisions, also the worst decision I have made so far.

It has been almost 2 years since the time I boarded my plane at Melbourne International Airport. I loved Melbourne streets yet visiting Msian mamaks has been my favourite pastime. I loved my studio apartment yet I love being closer to my family and friends. Melbourne was like a huge box of Baci chocolates, everything was surprising and new yet home is where the heart is, having the sense of familiarity back here, who knows in the near future things might differ.

2. People can be rude, even if they don’t know you.

“Oh well, he might have his own reasons for acting that way, we should give him the benefit of doubt.”

“It is ok, she is just mentally challenged, see her as your patient and try to understand her more.”

WHAT ABOUT ME THEN?

Nono, I’m not being selfish but fairly asking a question here. If some psycho-B starts acting crazy around me, should I be like “oh poor you, here, let me lend you a cheek and please, do release your depression or anxiety attacks on me because we are somehow connected in the universe.”

Everyone has their own part in this world and it is called being “humane”. Basic principles of being that requires a brain, a heart and empathy towards OTHERS.

Oh and trust me, if I do burst out, that arse must have crossed my border again and again and again. I do give chances when I’m wronged for reasons beyond my imagination, everyone is responsible to reflect and repent on their own anyways.

3. You’ll know when you met that someone, you just know he/she is going to be the right one and just settle, JUST SETTLE.

WRONG. Relationships means more than just the first encounter of two souls (and the next few times), how they make you feel, how they treat you, yada yada… It is more about what you become when you are with that someone, this can be observed through how you contribute to the equation, how you treat your partner, how you react when he or she is being “difficult”? Do you allow yourself to be treated that way?

I gotta admit, sometimes I couldn’t feel any lonelier being in a relationship than I was being single. Not a bad thing though, through times like this, I had the opportunity to learn more about myself, my qualities, my likes and dislikes then methods to adjust and change. Focus more on yourself, being a bigger person requires a bigger heart. Kill snobs with kindness. They are the ones who need kindness most in this world. Just like the saying “No matter how much you love someone, love yourself first and know your worth.” What is love then? Whatever makes you happy.

4. Workplace does not define you, it is certainly NOT your house nor is it your home.

It is a place where serious politics come in play. No one wants to be the hangman, no one wants to be seen as someone who is incapable of doing their tasks right.

Here’s the golden rule, no one is playing by the rules. So why push yourself to one corner? Remember, everyone is at work too! True focus comes from a serene place, if the mind is scattered, what work can be done well? NONE. Come to think of it, many times my manager has been a tough cookie for me to deal with but I am not the easiest employee to be pushed around neither, guilty as charged!

So, what is your new year’s resolution? I hope this read does you well, even just the tiniest bits.

Till then!

xo,

Rowena

Prayer in C

=====================================================================

Just cause someone is mean to you,
Doesn’t mean you are not favourable;
Just cause someone is harsh to you,
Doesn’t mean he is condemned.

Sometimes a person has to fail many times,
And it takes one victory to top it all;
Sometimes a person needs one victory,
To push him to achieve failure more.

More than often a choice is offered,
On a silver platter or with a whip;
Yet we are mostly blinded by stars,
To love or not, hatred should always bounce with a ping.

Love is not an illusion, it is a way to everlasting hope,
It is a privilege, a luxury, a truth;
To those who do not educate themselves, dimmed and buried,
The more you reject love, the more grief and sorrow you would carry.

Yet to the wise ones, do not let your advantage get the best of you,
One mountain do remember, there is always a higher peak;
Just because it is not yet discovered, doesn’t reject its presence,
Hop on to a comfy couch with what makes you contented, cheerios or maybe… Just some cheese!

A reputable person has what it takes to build an empire of followers,
A notable soul has what it takes to build an empire for the followers;
A theory, a judgement, an assumption, an experience,
Whatever you call it, we are merely explorers on a footlong journey.

One person’s trash is another person’s treasure,
Not to comfort but to bend for leisure;
Who’s right who’s wrong does it matter,
For one should focus on becoming better.

It’s 2015!!!

One more month and it’s Chinese New Year. Probably a yearly 31st December is not enough to announce Earth that when the clock strikes 12, it’s a whole new year. Therefore the Chinese decided to make a louder announcement with their fire crackers, huge lions that dance on high poles, jumping from one to another and cymbals clanging onto each other, oh and not to forget the ear-muffling-drums! It is said to be the busiest festive all year round.

Do I miss Christmas? always. Specially during Chinese New Year.

Driving along the padi fields in a white vintage car that resembles a Fiat 500, waves of wind came gushing in the windows. Meanwhile I was busy calming the loose strands of my braided bun, next minute I caught myself looking over to the driver’s seat, there he was mastering the ol’ ride’s stick swiftly. Humming to the same tune, after a huge disagreement from the night before, the long silence somewhat seems soothing. After a while or so, we stopped by a food stall along the coastline for some local delicacies.

Getting out of the car, he pulled me into his arms and playfully messed my hair. I swatted off his hand abruptly, till he got a hold of my hand.

“What is it?”
I looked hard at him, searching solemnly for whatever that I thought might help me piece out whatever it is.

“You broke the cold war.” and with that being said, a kiss and to be continued.

You know it.. that’s the way the season starts!
You’ll see beautiful decorations lighting up the city, christmas carols filling the air and jingles taking over the town.
That warm fuzziness you get, that’s what makes Xmas so different from other festivals.

what’s Xmas without sweets! let’s =)

Marzipan class ’14

Season’s greetings hohoho!
~ Christmas is a time to believe in things you can’t see ~
It’s not always about the presents, turkey or the wine.. but what you make meaning of right from the bottom of your heart.
“For auld lang syne, my dear,
we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.”

Music Transformation

20 Thursday Nov 2014

This is so exciting!
Arts Centre Melbourne, Hamer Hall St Kilda Road.
I hope to see you there on Valentines’ 2015!
A good friend of mine who shares a similar interest in the performing arts sector, introduced Einaudi’s piece to me one fine day — Divenire. Got to say, truly a masterpiece. One of the most delightful modern classical pieces I’ve ever got to learn. The composition, the jellofinger motion and of course, the upbeat and honest key interpretations. What more joy can a pianist ask for?

Einaudi’s music was featured in the Oscar-winning film Black Swan, titled Eros; motion pictures such as Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar and box-office record breaker The Intouchables.
It was said that his return to Melbourne will feature his latest album In a Time Lapse as well as piano-led ballads and film scores =)

Live @ Royal Albert Hall London

“I could see music in architecture, or in the way a group of birds were flying in the sky, even about the texture of a wall. Everything is well connected.” – Einaudi, L.

If I could have the pleasure, I would dare anyone to perceive this world as it is meant to be seen, one’s perception is another’s misconception.

See through your very own kaleidoscope, what’s there to lose but to gain.

Tout l’amour! Till then.. x

What dreams are made of.

14 Friday Nov 2014

Ever experienced a dream so real you actually woke up catching yourself feeling breathless?
   Why do dreams occur?
   Would you interpret it?
   Are dreams significant?

I do from time to time, waking up to what was supposed to be a thoughtful morning call from Mr P, somehow things took a sharp turn to rockyroad but we managed a laugh after things cooled down. Speaking of insanity haha. He was of course, a gentleman to pardon me at that odd hour, under given circumstances.

When it comes to interpreting dreams, Dream Psychoanalysis – A theory which wouldn’t be foreign to any psychology major, pioneered by a well-known psychologist, Sigmund Freud who started as a neurologist, later known as the father of psychoanalysis. Freud (1900) considered dreams to be the ‘Royal Road to the Unconscious’ as our ego defence mechanisms are lowered during dreams, hence some of the repressed material come through awareness, albeit in some twisted form. Despite the fact that Freud’s theories are very likely to stir some controversial minds, I personally find them meticulously bold. So…

Are dreams the unexplored reality or merely just fantasies?
If not the latter, can dreams be premonitions?

Ku De Ta

It was a cold and breezy night in Kuta, lying on the sandy beach side-by-side with his EarPods plugged in, for once we were humming to the same tune.
I’ve always loved the scent of the ocean, the melodious tempo of his surfers music, the moon, the stars.. It was intoxicatingly breathtaking. Cloud 9 definitely.
A dangerous conflict between the brain and the heart because there was a mutual unspoken consent. Only… We were embracing the moment.

Early next morning, I picked my blue batik he’d gotten me when we first arrived, wrapped it around me and tightened it with a loose ribbon. Leaning against the door gripping onto his waxed white surfboard, another hand reaching out for me. “Let’s embrace the waves together, are you ready Wena?” I grabbed my book, smiled and swooned into his arms, “Let’s.”

Would you want to experience the mythical sweetness and bitterness of love that everyone seems to be yearning for?
Or would you want a bulletproof heart?
It’s a no brainer for me, et toi?

A tout a l’heure!

Apple Upside Down

28 Friday Feb 2014

Flying has never made it to the top of Scarlet’s favourite list. Jitters she gets during take-off, different air pressure high up in the sky from land, and of course, blocked ringggging ears… Whenever her ears are “stuffed”, she would say a lil prayer that her eardrums will not damage by overyawning……. maybe every 5 minutes she counted.

Mid air and immersed herself in her nicely wrapped paperback novel, a thought came swooshing across her mind… Final Destination… No, no, no. She squinted. Scratch that!!! Final Destination  .  Done.   She turned her attention back to her book, something else emerged, a familiar voice she thought. “I must be hearing stuff.. Oh silly me. But…..” Scarlet paused and thought to herself. Yawn.. yawn..

“Hey… you.” Oooh it gets louder, her heart sank. She looked from one side to another, wondering where did that sense of familiarity come from.

“It’s been awhile hey? hehh..” he grinned.

Life. is. such…… she nearly squeaked but what happened to her voice!?? She managed a smile.

yet sometimes, you find yourself stuck in an equation that consists of something that’s made for a good shelf-life and someone you once knew fairly well

Semibreve Rest

29 Sunday Dec 2013

“To play classical, one must love classical music itself to play it well.” – Maksim Mrvica

Classical music would be considered the basic exposure to all pianists, beginners start with the easier melodies, getting use to the palm arch, movements, eyes and fingers coordination. Also theoretical lessons that introduces the history of great composers, music transformation periods and such.

One musician’s name made me giggled the first time I got introduced to his children’s piano pieces. Here goes……… Béla Bartok. I remember staring at my piano teacher searching for the same hint of humour the moment she decided that I get the proper pronunciation of such foreignity.
From then on, Mozart, Beethoven, Johann, Tchaikovsky were all in my books. The passion grew ever since. Somethings are meant to be enjoyable to oneself and not be made into a source of anything else. Take it as it is.

Semibreve rest. A 4/4 beat rest which you can find in most musical manuscript, shaped like an upside-down black top hat hanging under the second line of the stave.

Whether it’s for the strive for security, passion, the waves, the adventure, the commitment or the fun. There will be times when you feel as if you’re six-feet under.. Do remember, if your mind likes it to be there, just for a spasm moment, stay put. You’ll never always be stuck down under. At least…. it is in our very nature to fight. What are we fighting for? That’s a question of worth then.

2014. You ready?

Visions

17 Tuesday Dec 2013

I have always been a spec-girl since the age of 9, and increases in short-sightedness (myopia) has not been a “what’s-next-on-the-platter” sort of issue. Finally, after years of TLC and maintaining the degree of my myopia above -5, I’ve felt that it is time to regain my perfect eyesight by going under the scalpel – Lasik eye surgery, no more blurry visions and fumbling through darkness in search of the spectacles again hoorah!!

Procedure was painless, though slightly unpleasant because you won’t know what the surgeon’s going to do next with your eyeballs being widely stretched and exposed *somewhat similar to putting on contact lenses but not very much the same*, the best thing to sum up ala doctor’s advice, no squinting… -.- not the easiest and most comfortable thing I’ve experienced… just imagine “Discovery Channel” — Restraining a duck from flapping its wings.

Love to be home, but not liking the weather and stuffiness as usual.. missin melby but all’s good set aside le’ drama-rama. Time to rest my eyeballs, hello perfect vision!;)

xo,
Rowena
